Getting Started
Install the Altered Digital Migration plugin and connect your Sanity project in under 5 minutes.
Prerequisites
- A self-hosted WordPress site (4.7+) with admin access
- PHP 7.4 or higher
- A Sanity.io account (free tier works)
- An Altered Digital account (created during onboarding)
1. Install the plugin
- Download the
altered-digital-migration.zipfrom your Altered Digital dashboard. - In WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
- Upload the zip and click Activate.
On multisite installs, you can network-activate the plugin. A Network Settings page lets you push product-wide credentials (Supabase URL, AI Service URL) to every subsite at once. Each subsite keeps its own webhook secret, tenant ID, and post-type selection.
2. Connect your Sanity project
- Go to Altered Digital → Connect.
- Click Onboarding Wizard.
- Step 1 — Account: Log in with your Altered Digital email and password (or create an account).
- Step 2 — Analyze: Click "Analyze my site." The plugin gathers your post counts, active page builders, ACF field groups, and media inventory, then sends them to the AI service for complexity classification.
- Step 3 — Quote: Review your AI-generated quote. Add any optional add-ons (hands-on assistance, custom schema design, priority support, QA review).
- Step 4 — Checkout: Pay 50% upfront via Stripe. Your migration is now unlocked.
- Step 5 — Connect Sanity: Enter your Sanity project ID, dataset, and API token. These are encrypted (AES-GCM) and stored per-tenant — Altered Digital never holds your content.
Each WordPress site you install the plugin on becomes its own tenant under your Altered Digital account. One account, many sites, many Sanity projects — all billed under one login.
3. Migrate content
Once connected, publishing or updating any post in WordPress triggers a webhook to the Altered Digital Worker, which:
- Extracts the post content + featured image + terms + ACF fields
- Uploads media assets to your Sanity project
- Transforms content to Portable Text (dispatching to the right page-builder parser)
- Calls
createOrReplaceon your Sanity Content Lake - Triggers Next.js revalidation
For bulk migrations, use the Dashboard → Export page or the WP-CLI command:
4. Approve and finalize
After your migration is complete:
- Go to Altered Digital → Dashboard.
- Review the migration progress (success/pending/failed counts).
- Run AI Cleanup to generate alt text, meta descriptions, and fix slugs.
- Click Approve Migration. The system runs QA checks (WP counts match Sanity counts, no pending rows, Next.js render probe) and, on success, prompts you to pay the final 50%.
After the 7-day dispute window with no issues, the migration is auto-marked completed.
